Tasting: Picket Fence Russian River Pinot Noir

Name - Picket Fence Russian River Pinot Noir
Variety - Pinot NoirRegion - Russian River Valley, CaliforniaCountry - United StatesYear 2012Price - $16.95

Wine Review - This wine has aromas of brandy-macerated red cherries, bay laurel, duck fat, forest floor, toasty baking spices and warm vanilla.  The chewy red and black fruits come through in the mouth with layers of fine tannins and just a whisper of smoldering French oak.  A delicious finish ends this wine on a lush note of creme brulee topped with plum compote.  Wilfred Wong rated this wine 92 points.

Personal Review - This wine was spicy, smoky and delicious.  The dark cherries stood out, and I was able to taste their flavor immediately.  I am not the biggest red wine drinker, so I was surprised that I liked this wine - maybe because it was not too dry compared to most red wines that I have tried in the past.

Food - I did not try this with food; however, the man conducting the tasting said it would pair well with salmon on grill.
